Walking in Triana

Saturday 3rd Sept, 2022

It was a relatively early start this morning as the apartment host was coming to take payment, and I had a walking tour booked.

The meeting point for the tour was the Torre del Oro which was about 20 minutes walk away - I arrived in the area so stopped at a cafe for a coffee.

The tour was extremely interesting as we saw none of the usual Seville sights but headed into the Triana district for some fascinating background on the history of the city including: Moors, Jews and Gypsies; Christopher Columbus and Rodrigo; gunpowder and Cervantes (and much more). Well worth doing if you are in the city (Google Sandemans tours - I also did them in Brussels and Berlin).

Later, after a paella lunch I bought a Hop on / Hop Off ticket on an open-topped bus and did the bigger tour of the city - but am still looking forward to checking out the Alcazar and the Cathedral.

Cathedral booked for Sunday afternoon - the evening was spent breaking into a wine bottle as I omitted to check that the apartment had a corkscrew OR that the wine bottle had a screw top - wine poured in any case!
