And at last the weather has improved again - a nice sunny day but not overwhelmingly hot.
The bad news was that the brunch we had planned at the Dandelion Cafe didn't happen as they were closed exceptionellement.
We then headed for the part of town where the tram tour leaves from and found a cafe (eventually) that served breakfast - it's really quite hard sometimes to find le petit dejeuner if you are not in a "touristy" area.
However, on presenting ourselves at the office for the tram tour we were informed that it has engine problems and wouldn't be running. Day going well so far!
After completing forms to get a refund we walked through the Croix-Rousse area (where the tram would have gone) and got some great views of the old town and of the city spread out to the east.
There are more Roman remains in the Croix-Rousse area and we had a bird's eye view of the Amphitheatre des trois Gaules. Our lunch stop opposite une eglise provided entertainment as we watched guests arrive for a wedding, followed by the bride in her car.
The journey to the airport by metro and tram (Rhonexpress) was quick, cheap and uneventful and as I write we are waiting for our delayed flight to Edinburgh.
I have been pretty lucky with flights so far so hopefully it won't be too late.
Lyon has been great; it's a fabulous city and I would like to spend some more time here. I will have a brief sojourn in Stirling before the next instalment!
