A fishy in a dishy

Saturday 13th August, 2022

Despite choosing not to travel abroad in August I had itchy feet so booked a B&B in the north-east of Scotland for a long weekend. This has entailed more driving (I still have my car) than all the last two months added together! I was quite tired when I arrived on the Friday evening. I based myself in Strichen, near Fraserburgh as it was a part of the world I had never visited.

It has not disappointed! I am very lucky with the weather and so have made the most of the time to do some walking - NOT around a city, yay! - and reading.

On my first full day I headed north to Inverallochy and the most amazing beach. After the crowded cities, and trains, it was lovely to have it all to myself! The village itself is a former fishing village, and the "Lost at Sea" statue tugs at the heartstrings - too many women waited for their men to return from the sea.

A short drive to Fraserburgh which has "big boats" and where the fishing industry is still very much in evidence, but on a different scale.

I took a look at the Kinnaird lighthouse before heading to a fish restaurant for lunch.

The Captain's Table is family-run, and there is a lot of good chat as well and great food - highly recommended!

The rest of the day was spent reading in the lovely garden back at the B&B and also planning the next walk!
